Orlando is a Florida favourite designed to be enjoyed in the sunshine which is why I was beyond disappointed when it started to rain. And rain. Then for good measure rain even more. At one point it seemed like the rain was coming in sideways.
It was time for a new game plan. Was Orlando a city that could be enjoyed when the weather wasn’t cooperating? Here are five great rainy day ideas to help you stay dry and still have fun in Orlando:
If your idea of a vacation is to relax and not have to think about anything, Orlando Escape Game may not be for you. Pick from three scenarios – The Heist, Prison Break, or Classified. You have one hour to figure your way out of a room by solving clues. Can you do it? These games are fun and if you’re looking for an activity that will make you forget about the weather, this is an awesome stop. Fun with couples, but it’s truly a blast with a group of friends.

One great idea is Cirque du Soleil’s La Nouba, a highly entertaining production located right beside Walt Disney World Resort. Performances occur Tuesday through Saturday at 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. and is great for all ages. The production had all the thrills and excitement you would expect from Cirque du Soleil with talented and skillful performers doing all sorts of eye-popping tricks.
La Nouba is located right outside the front gate of Walt Disney World Resort. You can walk around the area and see fun things and eat in great restaurants without going inside, so it’s a nice spot to hang out before or after a show.

Featuring a variety of themed and interactive exhibits – as well as laser shows – Orlando Science Centre is another outstanding stop that is suitable for singles, couples or people travelling with youngsters. One thing children will love is “Kids Town”, featuring several activities that should keep the little ones occupied for at least five minutes, hopefully.

Sadly, CSI the show has been cancelled but CSI: The Experience Orlando is still there and is a solid way to stay dry and have fun. Gil Grissom, who was played by William Petersen, will guide you through one of three mysteries. Gather clues, take notes, solve the case.

Trained actors in period dress provide guided tours in this 17 gallery, 20,000 square foot interactive museum. Step back in time as Capt. Smith and Margaret Brown share stories about their journey on this famous ship. The exhibit showcases over 400 artefacts. One item you will see is the “Little Big Piece,” a three-ton section of the Ship’s hull and the second largest piece of Titanic ever recovered. There are also full-scale recreations of her grand staircase, first class cabin and the veranda.
TIP: Driving in Florida means driving on toll roads. Do your research — depending on how far you plan to drive and how long you’re staying, it may be advisable to pay these fees up front with the rental company so that you won’t always have to be hunting for loose change. Be sure to shop around because every company has different rates. If driving a personal vehicle, your tolls will be recorded and mailed to you, along with an administrative fee.
